There are ways to make a living as a soccer coach

Many people have wondered how to make money as a coach. The fact of the matter is that it’s not easy to make a living as a soccer coach in the United States and I’m sure it’s the same in other parts of the world. But the good news is that it can be done.

Below I’ve listed five ways to make money as a soccer coach.

Personal Soccer Trainer

One way to make money as a soccer coach is to becoming a personal coach for kids that need extra help fine tuning their skills.

There are plenty of ways to market yourself online whether it’s Facebook or other social media platforms and websites.

The only thing you need are some soccer balls, a field and some insurance to cover yourself in case one of your players gets injured. Insurance should run you around $300 a year from the research that I’ve done.

If you’re unsure about starting your own training company or have an questions, all you need to do is some research online.

Club Soccer Team Coach

This might be one of the more difficult soccer coaching jobs to get because it’s one of the most stable out there and is a year round gig.

The one catch is that club coaching jobs will usually require you to obtain a US Soccer D level coaching license. It’s not that difficult to obtain but will take some work.

High School Soccer Coach

Coaching high school soccer is a great option, but one thing to keep in mind is that the season only lasts maybe two months out of the year and then you will need to find another way to make money for the remaining 10 months out of the year.

You might also find it easier to get a job coaching a private school compared to a public school that may want to a teaching degree or certificate.

Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots is a great company to work. They have locations all over the country and are pretty much a grassroots organization that introduces the game of soccer to kids ages 2-8. They work with kids in daycares, at public parks and after school programs.

There might also be other soccer companies in your area as well as that work with kids after school, so Soccer Shots isn’t the only option.

Local Youth Sports Organization

Do some online search to see if there are any local youth sports organizations that are looking to employ soccer coaches. You just never know what you will find. I know I’ve seen some jobs in my area.

Camps & Clinics

Like high school coaching, camps and clinics are a good way to make money coaching soccer, but it’s temporary and might only last for a few days or upto a week.

At the end of the day I encourage you to head over to Indeed or LinkedIn and search for soccer coaching jobs. You’ll be surprised at how many jobs will pop up.
