Finding the right soccer ball for your child can be confusing
One of the most common questions that I receive as a soccer coach from parents who sign their kids up is, what size ball should I purchase for my child?
That’s a good question because some people may not even realize that there are different sizes when it comes to soccer balls. Here’s a breakdown:
Size 1 (Mini Ball)
This soccer ball isn’t used for practice or games. It’s more skills training, or to have a souvenir and collectable.
Size 3
The size three soccer ball is for children that are eight years-old and younger.
Size 4
Size four soccer balls are designed for children that are between 8-12 years-old.
Size 5
Last but not least, a size five soccer ball is used by kids 12 and up. So yes, this is the same size that professional teams use.
When it comes to purchasing a soccer ball, I have some of tips on the best way to get a good quality ball at a reasonable price.
I wouldn’t suggest buying a soccer ball from Walmart, because from my own experience, they simply don’t last and are poor quality. Stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods aren’t a bad place to buy a ball, but I suggest going to stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls who sell $30 balls for around $15-$20. Sometimes even cheaper.
I hope this is helpful for you and your children. Feel free to drop a comment below.
