It’s not difficult to run a soccer practice

If you’re a new soccer coach, you might be wondering, how to run a soccer practice. Well that’s why I’m here to tell you just how to do that. It’s not as difficult as you might think.

First of all, if you feel like you have no idea what you’re doing, that’s OK. As they say, “fake it until you make it.” The most important thing is that the kids you’re coaching are having fun playing soccer. Everything else is secondary.

Now, down to business. Here’s how to run a soccer practice:

Have a Plan

The most important thing is to have a plan. Most likely if you’re coaching a rec team you have 1-2 hours of practice time a week. So plan accordingly.

All you need to do is write out what you want them to do. If you have an hour break things up into 10-15 minute periods. If you have a very young team of kids under the age of 10 you will need to keep things going constantly to keep them busy.

There are a lot of good fun drills to run with the kids that will keep them engaged.

Each kid should have a ball

This is more of a practice tip. If you want to know the fastest way to help your players get better, they should have a ball that their feet during most of the practice. Also limit your scrimmages to 3v3’s at the most and run multiple games at a time. This will allow them to get even more time on the ball and help them develop quicker.

Do research

When it comes to your coaching, soccer is not a difficult sport to grasp. There are a lot of videos on YouTube and articles on Google that can help assist you when it comes to how to run a soccer practice. Take advantage of the interest. Instagram and TikTok are other great tools.
